The book presents a gripping narrative of how an aspiring lawyer from nowhere navigated his way in and up to the higher echelon of his profession and society. Having had first-hand knowledge as a practising Barrister and then as Chairman of Bar Council and also as Advocate General the author has with utmost candour brought out in public domain so far untold intrigues, owes and anxieties of Indian judiciary including menace of delayed justice and abuse of judicial process. According to him in the post-independence period realities in judiciary integritywise classify judges mainly under three heads.
First, Supreme Court Justice A.N. Ray variety; second, Supreme Court Justice H.R. Khanna variety; and a third of more recent origin looking forward to some reward in their post retirement period. The author has also suggested the needful to protect and preserve the dignity of judiciary free from any executive or legislative interference in the matter of administration and dispensation of justice which according to him is the first priority of the judicial system of any democratic polity.
The book also contains a brief historiography of Indian judiciary and more particularly of a premier High Court of India along with an incisive analysis of contemporary politico economic state of affairs of India and more particularly of the State of West Bengal.
